LJUBLJANA – BLED – LOGARSKA VALEY – MARIBOR – PTUJ -  WINE ROAD ORMOZ - ZAGREB – PLITVICE – OPATIA – ISTRA PENINSULA - POSTOJNA CAVE
    

THE PROGRAM:

1. day :   LJUBLJANA AIRPORT-BLED-VINTGAR

Arrival at Ljubljana International Airport, transfer to BLED. Checking in to your hotel. Afternoon visit of Bled with its medieval castle, which stands firmly and proudly high on the cliff above the lake. We will drive to the TRIGLAV NATIONAL PARK and have a walk through the VINTGAR GORGE, one of the most beautiful and spectacular gorges in our country. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.

2. day:  RADOVLJICA/ŠKOFJA LOKA-LOGARSKA VALLEY

After breakfast a morning visit of RADOVLJICA, an old town built on the top of the river bank. Instead of Radovljica we can take a short walk through another old town: ŠKOFJA LOKA. After lunch we will visit the LOGAR VALLEY, this »jewel of the Alpine region« with its numerous waterfalls, springs, rapids and gorges.  Dinner and overnight in Maribor.

3. day:   MARIBOR-ŠMARJE-OLIMJE

After breakfast a morning walk through the old town of MARIBOR. Our next stop will be in ŠMARJE PRI JELŠAH where we will take a closer look at the Baroque Church of Saint Rock. From the village the sacred stairs with 12 chapels along the way lead to the top of the hill. Afterwards we will visit the church and a part of the former castle, later turned into a monastery of the order of Paulists and the famous apothecary shop, the third oldest in Europe, at OLIMJE. Later on  return to Maribor, free time for leisure. Dinner and overnight in Maribor.

4. day:   PTUJ-ORMOŽ WINE ROAD - VERŽEJ-GORNJA RADGONA

After breakfast a morning visit of PTUJ, the oldest town in Slovenia. The journey will continue in ORMOŽ where the Ormož Ljutomer “wine road” begins. After lunch in one of the taverns scenic wine route we will proceed to VERŽEJ, where the only still working watermill on the Mura river stands. For this day the excursion will end in GORNJA RADGONA, in its famous wine cellar where we will taste the best sparkling wine in Slovenia. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.

5. day:   MARIBOR – ZAGREB – PLITVICE LAKES

After breakfast we will be on our way to ZAGREB, the capital city of Croatia. A walk through this historical town will lead us from the Republic Square along the main shopping street Ilica to the old part »Gornji grad« where in the past the seat of the »ban« and leaders of the church was. Some free time for leisure. The journey will continue to Plitvice. Check in to hotel. Dinner and overnight.

6. day:  PLITVICE-OPATIJA-HUM (ISTRA PENINSULA)

After breakfast a stroll through the PLITVICE LAKES NATIONAL PARK. Afterwards we will take a drive to OPATIJA. A walk through this beautiful old town, which was already at the turn of the century one of the favourite holiday resorts in Europe, is really an aesthetic delight. Afterwards we will set forth to the smallest village in the Croatian Istria, HUM. Check in to your hotel in Piran on the Adriatic coast. Dinner and overnight.

7. day:  POSTOJNA/ŠKOCJAN-LJUBLJANA-LJUBLJANA AIRPORT

After breakfast transfer to POSTOJNA in the Slovenian Karst. The 20-kilometre-long underworld system of connected galleries, halls and shafts, the largest in Europe is a miracle in itself, but you will be truly astounded by the mysterious human fish (Proteus anguinus), the largest permanent cave-dwelling vertebrate known to man. Instead of Postojna we can visit the ŠKOCJAN CAVES, a world of stalactites and stalagmites, large subterranean halls and the wild river Reka.  We will be on our way to LJUBLJANA, the capital city of Slovenia. After lunch we’ll take a walk through the old part of the town. Transfer to the airport for departure.
